A couple of members took part in the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch yesterday. It was a grey day and apart from the usual suspects, the surprise of the day was seeing a flock of 9 redwings sitting high in the trees near the “wild area”. They have never been recorded in Dog Kennel Hill Open Space before so it was a real treat to see them. The photo we took of them at the top of the poplar tree doesn’t do them justice so here’s a much better photo from the RSPB website. They look spotty like thrushes but they have a distinctive red patch under their wings.
The full list of birds is as follows:
- 9 redwing
- 7 woodpigeon
- 5 magpie
- 2 bluetits
- 2 parakeets
Whilst walking in the woods, we noticed a patch of water logged ground near the hedge. We’ll keep an eye on it to make sure it is just rainwater and not an underground leak!
