Scything the Meadow

The meadow in Dog Kennel Hill Open Space was scythed yesterday by two members of the Friends group. The grass had grown rather long and then it had rained which meant that the meadow grass was lying in lots of different directions and was quite hard to scythe! It took a few sessions but we got there in the end.

In the meadow we found a rare Deptford Pink flower, which is great news as we had added some seeds a few years ago and they must have been lying dormant all this time.

As previously we found that the meadow area is teeming with wildlife compared to the mown grass on the other side of the path.

We will leave the arisings so that the seeds can fall on the ground, ready for next year.
