Six members of the Friends group took part in the RSPB Garden Birdwatch today 25th January from 11am – 12pm. It was a grey overcast day but there was no rain. We came armed with binoculars, bird identification books, pens and the birdwatch results sheets.
Our first sighting was of six goldfinches chasing each other and tumbling around in the air above us. They seem to love the tall plane trees that line the edge of the open space. Other highlights were the arrival of the Greater spotted woodpecker and the long-tailed tits (otherwise known as “flying teaspoons”!)
