Welcome to DKH Wood
We’re a group of local people working to protect and promote Dog Kennel Hill Wood and Open Space in Camberwell, South London.
Our aims & objectives
Our main aim is to protect and improve Dog Kennel Hill Open Space with particular emphasis on wildlife conservation, quiet enjoyment and peaceful recreational use. We do this by working in partnership with Southwark council and by raising public awareness of the wildlife and amenity value of the park and wood.
What we do
We gather a few times a year to plant bulbs, prune the orchard trees, scythe the glade and litter pick. We also organise events such as wassailing, lantern parades, nature walks, bat detecting and even film nights. We keep a watchful eye on the open space and contact the council when work is needed.
Who we are
We are all volunteers who live near the open space and wood and who believe in protecting local green space.

We’ve been campaigning to save nearby Green Dale Fields
Southwark Council planning department have granted planning permission for a football stadium development on nearby Green Dale. This land, including the astro turf is MOL (Metropolitan Open Land) and therefore we believe it should be protected.
Why it matters
We have a deficiency of green space in south Camberwell, coupled with high density housing. Many people have no access to gardens and rely on parks and open spaces for their well-being.
In addition, Green Dale and Dog Kennel Hill Open Space are part of a mosaic of habitats that support our fragile natural ecosystem.
A threat to one green space is a threat to all, therefore the Friends of Dog Kennel Hill Wood have been campaigning to save Green Dale from the developers.
